The Sesia river, unforgettable emotions
The Sesia rises from Monte Rosa at about 2,500 meters above sea level, from the glacier of the same name. With a snow-glacial regime, the river level is also sensitive to seasonal rains. It is one of the last free flowing rivers in Italy, since there are no dams blocking its course before Varallo. The Sesia is suitable for paddlers of all levels thanks to its numerous sections. The easiest is the famous "Tratto Gara", class II and III, where the European kayak championships were held in 2001 and the world championships in 2002. The most famous section is located just upstream of the Alpin Rider Center, the Alpin Sprint, class III / IV +.
However, what makes Valsesia so unique is the abundant number of alpine tributaries and streams, which greatly increase the offer of different sections suitable for all levels of paddlers. Among them, from north to south, the Vogna, Artogna, Sorba, Gronda, Sermenza, Egua and Sermenzina, the Mastallone and finally the Sessera.
